Virgin Atlantic is currently trialing the use of Google glass or a Sony SmartWatch 2 with its business class passengers flying Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow. Both devices operate via a purpose-built dispatch app built by the Virgin Atlantic passenger service system and SITA.
This app is designed to manage all the task allocations and concierge availability. As the business class passengers arrive at the upper wing class, the app will push individual passenger information directly to the assigned concierge via Google Glass or Sony Smart Watch.
In other developments, the company is also testing iBeacon technology at Heathrow Airport, allowing iOS users to receive flight updates and offers while at the airport.
The glasses and watches will also allow the staff to update passengers about the weather, flight information, language translation as well as advise passengers about locale events that are occurring at their final destination.
